Selena Gomez Opens Up to Vogue Australia About Dating in the Spotlight: Nobody Wants the Publicity
Being a global superstar isn't all it's cracked up to be, according to Selena Gomez
The pop sensation stuns on the September cover of Australian Vogue, along the way offering a candid glimpse into the aftermath that followed her very public relationship and subsequent split from Justin Bieber.
"For a while my private life was the most talked about thing," Gomez told the mag. "Nobody really knows everything and they can only assume. You want to do what you love but all this other stuff overshadows it so it makes it a little harder for people to take me seriously."
The 24-year-old has since moved on from that time in her life, investing her passion and energy into her sell-out Revival tour. "I figured it's just temporary. I feel like that fortunately and unfortunately it's where my life is at the moment and I have to accept it," the "Let Me Love You" singer explained.
But as her music career continues to skyrocket, Gomez says she still feels the sting of relationships past when it comes to pursuing new ones.
"Because I think people would think it's kind of dumb [to date me]," Gomez said. "Nobody would want to throw themselves into that situation where it was so heightened publicly, like, why would they?"
Selena maintains she doesn't have time to date at the moment, but isn't opposed to having fun and hanging out with potential suitors.
For now, Gomez is continuing to find a creative outlet through her music, explaining to Vogue Australia the reason she fought her label to release "Good For You" as Revival's first single.
"I was so adamant that I didn't want that to be my story," she revealed. "'Same Old Love' is so obvious in what it's about, it's a cycle of a very vicious relationship. Even though that is such a huge narrative of my life, I felt confident with 'Good For You' [being the first single], and then it could be like, I'm pissed and this is exhausting.' I think any girl would feel that."
