Watch: Eddie Redmayne on Visiting Brazil for the First Time

Eddie Redmayne is having a magical time in Rio.

The Oscar-winning actor, who plays Newt Scamander in the upcoming Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, is enjoying the Olympic Games with his wife, Hannah Bagshawe, and their 1-month-old daughter, Iris Redmayne. Eddie was the guest of honor at the opening might of OMEGA House in Rio Saturday, where he spoke to E! News about his vacation. "I've never been to South America; I've never been to Brazil," the actor said, noting that he was excited not only by "the prospect of coming to Rio," but by "coming the Olympics specifically."

"I kind of had high expectations, and so far, they've just been completely superseded. I went to the opening ceremony, which was just mind-blowing," he said of Friday's event, which drew 26.6 million viewers on NBC. "It's kind of amazing that they've managed to make it such a show for the people there, but at the same point, there's all that aerial stuff that looks so great on telly."

In addition to watching the world's top athletes compete for glory and gold, Eddie and his family have been busy sightseeing. "I've been a tourist. I've been to Santa Teresa, to Christ the Redeemer," he said. "I'm here with my wife and child, and we're just having a lovely holiday."

Eddie was dressed to impress in Hardy Armies, while Hannah wowed in Alexander McQueen. Prince Albert II, Camilla Belle, Francisco Costa and Torben Grael also attended the event. "I was told that Omega House was going to be breath-taking and it is," Eddie raved. "It's going to be a great place to people-watch and hopefully see if I can spot a few Olympians. It's Heaven."
