Zayn Malik wants some time away from the stage.

Shortly before he was scheduled to perform at London's Capital Summertime Ball Saturday evening, the "Pillow Talk" singer announced he was canceling his show for a personal reason.

"To all those people who have been waiting to see me perform…I flew into the UK last night to appear in my home country in front of my family, friends, and most importantly my UK fans," he said in a statement posted on Twitter. "Unfortunately, my anxiety that has haunted me throughout the last few months around live performances has gotten the better of me…with the magnitude of the event, I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career."

He continued, "I cannot apologize enough but I want to be honest with everyone who has patiently waited to see me. I promise I will do my best to make this up to everybody I've let down today."

Recently, Zayn was able to perform on The Voice's finale back at the end of May. He also performed several songs from his solo album at 102.7 KIISFM's Wango Tango near Los Angeles.

The former One Direction member even had fans speculating about a world tour announcement when he RTed a fan's message with two eye emoji's.

For now, Zayn hopes concertgoers will understand his situation. And yes, he plans to make it up to fans as soon as possible.

"I hope those who suffer anxiety will understand," Zayn concluded. "And I hope those who don't can empathize with my situation."
