Yesterday Marvel announced the actor who will play the next Spider-Man, and today comes the backlash.

Tom Holland, who was fairly unknown before this week, will take on the role of Peter Parker for both the Spider-Man reboot and the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. He seems like a perfectly nice kid, but his casting really struck a nerve with Marvel fans. Like, really struck a nerve.

Concerned citizens took to Twitter, naturally, to voice their very strong opinions about what they believe is a total travesty. Sorry, Tom, but you're not going to like what we're about to say.

In a nutshell, their complaints are threefold. First, fans are upset that a comic book movie yet again chose a white male for a lead. With the recent introduction of the mixed-race Miles Morales character to the Marvel Universe, it (almost) seemed like it was high time for a casting a little less predictable.

Next up on the list of grievances is Holland's age. Actually make that his perceived age. Peter Parker is supposed to be a teenager, but fans seem to think he's just a bit too, um, youthful?

Finally, people are pissed that we're even talking about another Spider-Man casting at all. Even though this reboot was announced back in February, the fact that yet another Peter Parker will be gracing the big screen (and not, say, Black Widow) is ruffling a lot of fan feathers. But don't take our word for it—we'll let the people do the talking.
