In an industry where women are often expected to conform, Kristen Stewart isn't afraid to stand out.
With her short hairstyle, hipster chic appearance and her DGAF attitude, the Still Alice beauty has done a remarkable job of staying true to herself in Hollywood, despite catapulting to superstardom as a teenager when the first Twilight film was released.
Looking effortlessly edgy on the cover of Wonderland magazine, the 24-year-old star, who puffs on a cigarette in one black and white pic, answers the question, "What is feminism in 2015?"
"It's silly to play the devil's advocate when having a conversation about female roles in Hollywood, because then you're doing this 'reverse feminism' thing that has become weirdly trendy recently," she said. "I feel like some girls around my age are less inclined to say, 'Of course I'm a feminist, and of course I believe in equal rights for men and women,' because there are implications that go along with the word feminist that they feel are too in-your-face or aggressive."
She continued, noting how the various connotations of the word only muddle the true meaning. "A lot of girls nowadays are like, 'Eww, I'm not like that.' They don't get that there's no one particular way you have to be in order to stand for all of the things feminism stands for."
Stewart, who had a jam-packed 2014 thanks to films such as Camp X-Ray and Clouds of Sils Maria, also opened up about her future career aspirations, revealing she hopes to step behind the camera.
"I wrote a sick, short film that I'm really proud of," she shared. "It's more abstract rather than super narrative. It's like a poem; it's about water. People ask, ‘Why not just direct a feature?' But I want to play around first. I want to have experience. I think the first thing I'm going to make will live in the in-between moments."
Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson's ex recently made headlines after accomplishing a feat that no other American actress has done in 30 years when she received a 2015 César Award nomination for her supporting role in the indie flick Clouds of Sils Maria (the Césars are the French equivalent of the Academy Awards).
The last American actor to receive a nomination and win at the César Awards was Adrien Brody. Brody took home the award for Best Actor in 2003 for The Pianist.
Clouds of Sils Maria, which stars Stewart as the assistant of an aging film star (Juliette Binoche) looking for a comeback, was also nominated.
The 2015 César Awards will take place Feb. 20 in Paris, two days before this year's Oscars.
