Who will he play for next?

The New York Knicks have waived Lamar Odom, the team's communications department tells E! News.

The basketball team's president, Phil Jackson, made the announcement Friday. "Unfortunately, Lamar was unable to uphold the standards to return as an NBA player," he said in a statement. "We found it necessary to free up the roster spot." The New York Knicks also re-signed center Cole Aldrich that night.

The Knicks signed Odom on Apr. 16—the final day of the regular season—to a two-year contract, with the second year nonguaranteed. Jackson coached Odom for five seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Odom's last stint in the NBA was in 2012-13 with the Los Angeles Clippers. During the 2013 offseason, Odom was arrested on a DUI charge and reportedly dealt with substance-abuse issues. The 34-year-old athlete also allegedly cheated on his wife, Khloé Kardashian, who has since filed for divorce and sold their home.

On Sunday, the team re-signed seven-time NBA All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony. "After three months of questions around Carmelo Anthony's return to the New York Knicks, we are now happy to know that we have the cornerstone of what we envision as a 'team of excellence,'" Jackson said in a statement. The basketball executive and former player added, "[General manager] Steve Mills and I have assured Carmelo through our conversations, that we share the vision and the determination to build this team."

Coach Derek Fisher said, "I have had the opportunity to be around some of the greatest players in our game, and now I have the honor of coaching Carmelo. This is an exciting time for the New York Knicks franchise and our fans. I look forward to working with him and building something special together."

What's next for Odom? Only time will tell.
