This month Essence magazine is rolling out three different covers to choose from for its May beauty issue: Ledisi, Solange Knowles and Erykah Badu. We must say, each cover is as stunning as the next!
And we've got all the exclusive behind-the-scenes scoop on one of the May cover girls, Solange. During her shoot with the mag, Solange sat down for a Q&A to dish on her personal style, motherhood and more.
In terms of being thought of as a style icon, Solange keeps it humble. "A lot of times I don't feel very deserving of that title, because it is such a rotation of inspiration that I get from…so many people." She goes on saying, "I interpret my style the best way I can, and I feel so appreciative that it's celebrated on that level."
In terms of what it's like being a working mom, she sums it up: "Motherhood is such an evolving journey." As her son gets older, Solange explains her views on parenting adjust accordingly. "You really have to shape and mold your morals and values around that personality that has come into itself," she says.
She also admits that she tries to be more like her son and tap into his fearlessness. "Seeing that conviction and honesty with everything he does absolutely has made me a better person."
Wow. We were always impressed with Solange, but clearly the 27-year-old has an amazing head on her shoulders.
